Microsoft is rolling out a Windows 11 preview update, KB5127936, that adds a "customize menu" button to the right-click menu. Users can toggle built-in commands such as Send To and Create Shortcut, rearrange items on the main menu, and choose which third-party extensions appear in the main menu or submenus. According to the report, the change addresses a long-running complaint that Microsoft moved familiar commands behind a top row of icons and under the "Show more options" submenu.

The same update adds Cloud Rebuild, a recovery option that reinstalls Windows 11 from the cloud when a PC fails to boot. It pulls the Windows 11 image and needed drivers from Windows Update, so users do not need a custom recovery image or external media. The report says Microsoft classifies Cloud Rebuild as a recovery option, but it behaves more like a fresh install than a repair, and existing applications and files are not included. Users concerned about data can sanitize system drives before reinstalling.

The update is cumulative for Windows 11 versions 26H2 and 25H2. It will reach devices gradually before a general rollout after general availability.

The announcement coincided with Microsoft's quarterly earnings report. CFO Amy Hood said, according to a call transcript cited in the report, that "Windows OEM revenue was below expectations and decreased 27% and 28% in constant currency." She attributed the decline to the prior year's Windows 10 end-of-support demand, inventory drawdowns by OEM and channel partners, and weaker PC market demand. She also said, "we expect these trends to continue through the rest of the fiscal year." The broader Windows OEM and devices category, which includes Surface, fell 22 percent, per the earnings release. The report says recent hardware, including the Surface Laptop Ultra and RTX Spark platform, arrived too late in the quarter to appear in the results.

Azure revenue rose 48 percent, and Microsoft Cloud revenue grew 30 percent year over year. The report says Microsoft Cloud now accounts for roughly 70 percent of the company's $92.3 billion total quarterly revenue.
