Samsung has upgraded its sleep apnea detection on Galaxy Watches with a new AI algorithm that produces more detailed sleep reports, according to a ZDNET report. Users can see breathing disorder insights for each hour. The previous version only indicated whether a user had sleep apnea, without details on its specifics or timing.

The feature sorts results into three stages: mild, occasional, and frequent. Samsung says this classification allows for greater specificity in condition management. The report notes that the Galaxy Watch cannot itself aid in treating a sleep apnea diagnosis.

Samsung says the FDA-cleared feature will first arrive on the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2, Watch 9, and Ring. The company says Galaxy Watch 7 and 8 will receive the advanced detection through future software updates. The feature will launch in Korea first, starting in November. The report says there is no confirmed date for US availability on Samsung watches and smart rings.

To use the feature, a user must record two nights of sleep within a 10-day period.
