Code strings in Apple's HomeView software suggest the company could add security camera features soon, according to a Reddit user identified as pdfu. The strings describe a security camera mode with motion detection, live streaming, and recording options, along with privacy functions.
One setup page reads: "Your HomeView can be used as a security camera with HomeKit Secure Video," according to pdfu, as reported by The Verge.
The report says video feeds would be visible only to members of the home. Each feed would show an indicator light and play a sound when someone is watching or when recording starts. Home members would receive a notification whenever Secure Video settings change. Users could customize what the camera detects, streams, or records depending on whether they are home, away, or asleep.
Apple has not said anything publicly about these features. The Verge noted that some people have asked why HomeView did not work as a security camera at launch.
