Amazon has named Uber Eats its official restaurant delivery partner for Prime members in the United States, ending its existing deal with Grubhub. The companies announced the partnership Thursday, according to the source.
Under the arrangement, Prime members can order food from Uber Eats directly through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app. Prime members will not need an Uber account. They will not pay a delivery fee on orders over $25, the companies said. To launch the program, Amazon and Uber are offering Prime members $20 off a first order of $25 or more during the first two weeks.
The Grubhub agreement that gave Prime members access to Grubhub+ ends Thursday, an Amazon spokesperson said. The spokesperson said Amazon continuously evaluates its third-party offers and identified an opportunity to deliver a better restaurant delivery experience.
The source describes Amazon and Uber as having existing agreements covering cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis, and the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon's Alexa+ assistant.
The source reports that Amazon first partnered with Grubhub in 2022, offering Prime members a free Grubhub+ subscription. In 2024, Amazon expanded the arrangement into an ongoing offer. According to Just Eat Takeaway.com's annual report, Amazon elected in December 2024 to cash out its outstanding exercisable warrants in Grubhub. The source says Just Eat Takeaway later announced plans to sell Grubhub to Wonder.
Grubhub could not be reached before publication, according to the source.
