Roku will remove its Aquatic Life aquarium screensaver on Dec. 1, 2026, according to a message users have seen when the screensaver opens. After that date, devices set to Aquatic Life will switch to the Roku City screensaver.

Users on Reddit criticized the change, and Roku responded to one post saying, "Aquatic Life has a lot of loyal fans, and we're passing your feedback along to the team." Roku has not issued a statement explaining the removal.

ZDNET reports that several online reports attribute the removal to a licensing issue. Those reports say the screensaver's creator posted on Reddit that he removed the license after Roku's sale to Fox. The source says that thread has since been deleted, so the comment could not be checked. The reporter says they have contacted Roku and the creator for comment.

Users who want to keep the screensaver have options. The original clip is still available as a two-minute video on Roku's YouTube channel. Users can loop it through a YouTube playlist and play it with the YouTube app on Roku. Other options include aquarium videos on YouTube, several dozen aquarium apps for Roku (some of which show ads before playing), and the original app from SereneScreen for phones or computers.

To pick a different screensaver, go to Settings > Theme > Screensaver.
